The New Year is upon us, and if you’re like most us you’re making resolutions to improve yourself in the coming year. I love starting the New Year it’s like getting a clean slate from the year before, a fresh start. The New Year starts off with a ton of excitement and vigor as we are highly motivated to stick with and achieve our New Years resolution. The sad truth is most of us don’t stick to our resolutions and by March they are a distant memory. There are many resolutions we make every year like I’m going to get organized, or spend more time with family, and the most common fitness resolutions is simply to lose weight or get back into shape. The resolution of lose weight and get back into shape seems so simple, and that’s what tends to trip us up. I’m going to give you a simple system to follow to keep your fitness and weight loss resolution this year! It’s called “GSA”.
Goal, Strategy, Action or “GSA” for short
Goal: What’s your goal? Think about the major reason why you want to lose weight and get in-shape and write it down. I.E. medical reasons, a big event coming up, or to fit into your old clothes. Be specific and I recommend setting long term and short term health and fitness goals.
Strategy: How are you going to accomplish your goal? For example, let’s say you want to lose 15-25 pounds. You can go on a crash diet and hit the gym 7 days a week to lose the weight, but there is no doubt you’ll burn yourself out and gain the weight right back. Instead put a strategy in place to accomplish your goal:
How to Lose 15-25 Pounds
- Set a goal to lose 1-2 pounds per week.
- Workout 3-5 times per week
- Eat clean 6 days a week and give yourself 1 cheat day (moderation).
- Eat out less, and cut out sugary drinks.
When you have a strategy in place to accomplish your goals it serves as a track to run on making the accomplishment of your goals achievable each and every time.
Action: Now that you have your fitness and weight loss goals written down and a strategy to accomplish them the last step is to take action. You have to take daily action to accomplishing your goals. Writing them down and mapping it out aren’t enough you have to take action to be successful.
Be patient and stick to it for the long haul. Remember you didn’t gain the weight you want to lose over night. If you are consistent with eating healthy and exercising regularly you will not be disappointed. I can guarantee you that you will feel better and look better if you stick to your plan. Make this the Year that you keep that resolution you set for yourself. Use the “GSA” system to accomplish your goals. I know you can do this. Remember time + consistency = results! Happy New Year.
