It’s Resolution Time.
The New Year is here! We all start off the year with a clean slate, another chance for a fresh start, leaving last year behind. January is the time to set goals, and make resolutions. The New Year brings with it a renewed hope, and dreams for a prosperous, healthy, and fit New Year. This year you will stick to your resolutions and accomplish all you set out to do? I will show you how to set realistic goals and make 2014 your best year yet.
Let me start with saying it’s an uphill climb. It has been reported that 92% of all New Year’s Resolutions end in failure. That means that less than 1 out of every 10 people will successfully accomplish their resolutions in 2014, but don’t let that discourage you. I’m going to show you how the 8% succeed, and point out pitfalls that derail the other 92%.
The 92% of people that fail with their New Year’s resolution don’t set out with failure in mind. They are determined and focused at the beginning of the year; however they share a fatal flaw that derails each and every one of them. They bite off more than they could chew, and overwhelm themselves in no time flat. They make to many changes and can’t keep up and get discouraged. I know I’m guilty of this one too. In all the excitement of making positive changes in ones life in the New Year we make the crucial mistake of over committing ourselves. Within a few weeks we are feeling overwhelmed and start to give up. Don’t approach your New Year’s resolution with an ‘all or nothing’ attitude, because this attitude may lead to failure. Know one can go all in all the time. You have to allow for slip ups and minor setbacks.
Be a part of the 8% who succeed with their resolutions this year. The key to success this year is quite simple, set realistic goals.
• Instead of resolving to lose 50-100 pounds this year, start slow, and commit to exercise 2-4 times each week.
• Instead of starting an extreme diet, commit to making healthier food choices, and pack a lunch instead of eating out.
• Instead of resolving to drop 3 sizes in 3 months, commit to losing 1 pound each week until you reach your desired size.
• Instead of resolving to never eat junk food or sweets again, commit to eating healthy all week rewarding yourself with one cheat meal or snack a week.
If you want your resolution to stick this year keep it simple and realistic. Set realistic goals and don’t overwhelm yourself. Celebrate little victories, and if you fall off track, regroup and get back on it. Failure to reach your goals only happens when you give up completely. If you keep pressing forward through setback and derailments you will reach your goals in 2014. You can do it. Good luck, and get started!
